Uisneach Fire Festival 2026
We are now in early June and moving forward towards the Summer Solstice on the 21st; it seems like a good time to look back on the month of May and the season of Bealtaine.
It was an extremely busy month of ceremony and celebration, for me and for Coire Sois. At the heart of all the celebrations was Uisneach Fire Festival (see video post with my reflections on the festival).
Every year, I and women from the Coire Sois Sisterhood connect together with some of our northern sisters and other friends in the community to march together in the procession to the Bealtaine fire, which, this year, was ceremonially lit by legendary Irish storyteller Eddie Lenihan.
We also presented, as we have done in previous years, a mythological storytelling enactment. In taking on the mythological deity roles, the women draw on their Priestess Training, connection to, and understanding of, the Land, and our ancestral gods. Although I create a container or outline for these performances, and hold space as narrator, each participant brings through, unscripted, a spontaneous performance, reflecting the nature, energy, and character of the specific god or goddess they represented.
This year, we told the stories of Sionnann, Boann, and Danú. Continuing our focus on Imbeas and the Well of Sagais, we also share the story of the Bradán Feasa (Salmon of Knowledge). The blessings shared by the Sovereignty Goddesses at the conclusion of our performance was powerful and authentic, and deeply moved the audience.
I am so grateful to the Coire Sois Sisterhood and Friends for the beautiful, heart-filled energy, and time they give to this performance every year.
Hoping you all had a bright and blessed season of Blossoming, and wishing you all continued blessings as we move with the growing light towards the Summer Solstice, where Áine will take centre stage.
